Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. Prayer times seem to be incorrect
Please make sure that you have selected the correct prayer calculation method from the Settings screen. Currently, the app supports seven different calculation methods.
Also, make sure that the location shown on the dashboard screen or prayer times screen is correct. To reset the location or select a different location, go to Dashboard and tap the location on top of the screen.
Additionally, check the other settings such as Asr Calculation, High Latitude Adjustment and Time Format in the Settings screen under 'Prayer Times' category.
Finally, prayer times in this app are calculated based on the highly reputed open-source library for calculating prayer times. Please allow +/- 3 minutes for Fajr, 1 minute for Dhuhr, and 2 minutes for Maghrib as a precaution. More info about the calculation methods can be obtained online at PrayTimes.org
2. Prayer notifications are not working or seem to be unreliable
To receive prayer notifications, please make sure to:
- Enable iMuslim notifications for Sounds and Alerts (or Banners) in the main Settings/Notifications menu of your device. To confirm, go to Settings -> Notifications and make sure that 'iMuslim' is enabled.
- Activate the Adhan/Beep reminders for the prayers of your choice by selecting a prayer name from the "Prayer Times" screen of the iMuslim application.
- Check the volume level of your device.
3. Prayer notifications stopped working after a few days
Make sure you run the app at least once a week. Prayer time changes every day based on the position of the sun. We can therefore not set a recurring alarm (which would go off everyday at the same time) and need to set each Adhan separately for everyday. Pre-programming notifications in advance uses time, memory and battery. We therefore decided to program, everytime you run the app, Prayer notifications for the next 10 days. If you run the app at least once a week, this is transparent to you. So if the Adhan notification has stopped working for you, just launch the app and the issue should be fixed.
Please note that if you have recently updated your device to iOS 5.x, you may need to re-enable notifications for the iMuslim application from the Notifications menu of your device's Settings screen.
4. Prayer times are different from the ones in my local mosque and/or religious authority
There are various ways, called conventions, to calculate prayer times. Every country usually follows one specific convention. The iMuslim iPhone app currently supports 7 different conventions that you can choose from the Settings screen of the application. Also please make sure that your location is correctly detected or displayed on the "Dashboard" and "Prayer Times" screens.
Additionally, please check other settings like Asr calculation method and the higher latitudes adjustments if applicable.
Finally, most mosques and religious authorities decide to apply a preventive delay of plus/minus few minutes for some of the prayers. We are working on to provide you the option to manually adjust individual prayer times and will be released shortly. Stay Tuned.
6. Qibla direction is wrong
The Qibla compass needs to obtain your location in order to calculate the direction to the Qibla. Location services use the network connection and the GPS receiver of your device. Please make sure to:
- Enable location services for the Muslim Pro app from the main Settings of your device (under the "privacy" menu if your are using iOS 6).
- Connect to a data network (through wifi or mobile data) OR be standing outside in order to obtain a clearer GPS fix.
- Keep the device on a flat surface while using the compass.
* Still Compass*
If your compass is not moving and if both the blue Qibla hand and the red North "N" indicator are pointing up, it usually means that the phone has not been able to detect your location.
* Wrong direction *
If you feel that the device is indicating the correct direction in degrees but point to the wrong direction, please make sure to stay away from metallic and magnetic interferences (such as electronic devices, vehicles, metallic cases or magnetic closures, etc...). You may also try to "re-calibrate" the device by moving it 5 or 6 times in large 8-figures loops in front of you.
If you believe that the device is indicating the wrong direction in degrees, please note that the direction to the Kaaba is not a straight line on a flat map but a rounded path around our "spheric" earth. For example, although Makkah is located South-East of New York (USA) when you look on a map, it is normal that your Qibla points towards the North-East if you are in NY. You may read more about this topic at http://moonsighting.com/qibla.html
7. Some mosques from my neighbourhood are not shown in the 'Nearby Mosques' list
The list of mosques are retrieved from the Google's Places API service. We filter places containing the keyword 'mosque' in their name, type, and address, as well as customer reviews and other third-party content. You can use the Google Maps website to check if the mosque is already showing nearby your location. If the venue is already on Google Maps but not reflected in iMuslim app, make sure that venue details mention "mosque" in its name, type or address.
If you still believe there is something wrong, please use "Contact Us" button on the bottom of this screen or in "Settings" screen.
8. Quran text seems to be inaccurate
This copy of the Quran is carefully produced, highly verified and continuously monitored by a group of specialists in the Tanzil project. More info about the 'Tanzil' Project can be obtained online at http://tanzil.net
9. Why there are Ads in this app?
iMuslim is absolutely FREE and there are no paid features in this app and we do not plan to introduce any paid feature in the future as well. However, to support the development of the free version, we have decided to include ad banners and are using third-party mobile advertising platforms.
10. How can I remove the Ads in the app?
Currently, there is no way to remove Ads in the app. However, we are working on an update which will allow users to remove Ads for a minimum price.
11. Some of the Ads are not appropriate for muslims
We have selected leading mobile ad platforms which offer a variety of options to help us filter unwanted banners. However, it is a fully automated and computerized process which might still, from time to time, result in ad banners which did not get filtered properly. In such cases, please feel free to send us the name or description of the banner and accept our sincere apologies.
